PSA vs AAB: What BTEC Teachers Need on the Assessment Record

Many BTEC programmes mix Pearson Set Assignments (PSA) with Authorised Assignment Briefs (AAB). Both need a professional Assessment Record, but the evidence trail is not identical.

What a PSA Assessment Record must show

A PSA is set by Pearson. Your record should confirm the learner completed the set tasks, which criteria were achieved, and where the evidence sits in the submission. Do not rewrite the assignment brief. Focus comments on criterion achievement and any permitted resubmission.

What an AAB Assessment Record must show

An AAB is authorised locally against the unit specification. The record should still be criterion-referenced, and it should be clear that the brief used is the authorised version. Comments often need slightly more context because task wording can vary between centres.

Shared requirements for both

• Criterion codes on every assessor comment
• A clear Pass / Merit / Distinction (or not yet achieved) decision
• Teacher review before the record is exported or signed
• Language that a Standards Verifier can follow without extra explanation
